GOP Lawmakers Seek to Reward Workers Who Quit
August 12, 2021 at 10:48 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

Wisconsin Republican lawmakers are circulating a bill that would allow workers to collect unemployment if they quit a job over a vaccine mandate, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Current law stipulates that if an individual is fired or quits a job they are not eligible to receive unemployment benefits.

1. There is a doctrine in law called Constructive Termination

wherein you are excused from quitting a job if the workplace more or less compelled you, forced you to quit. And you get unemployment.

I know b/c I got UE when my boss had history of screaming at me (not yelling, screaming) that came to a head one morning when he screamed at me and then hit me on my upper arm (assault). Naturally I quit as I didn't want to see if he'd do it again. When I applied for UE, the representative couldn't believe my story initially except for the fact that I was nearly hysterical during the filing.

Allowing workers to quit and get UE for refusal to get a life-sustaining and life-saving vaccine doesn't rise to that standard IMO.

If there are germy people breathing all over you, tough luck but if the workplace DARES make you wear a mask, you're supposed to be able to collect UE.

If your employer doesn't mandate vaccines, masks, social distancing, hand-washing, or any other pandemic countermeasure that doesn't cost him one red cent, can a person quit that job and collect unemployment because they have a legitimate fear of being infected with a potentially lethal virus?

7. Double 'wins' for Republicans

This drives unemployment numbers up for Biden, as well as driving DOWN vaccination numbers. All while loudly proclaiming to protect the 'freedom' of people! (I guess that makes three 'wins')

GOP is angry that low wage workers are getting Federal supplements and staying away from restaurant jobs; and at the same time, they'll pay any worker who leaves a job due to a mask mandate. They are literally going scorched earth and would be happy to see this country fail.

This is how Rome falls.

10. You mean I can quit because I don't want to meet my employer's minimal expectations?

And then get unemployment?! Where can I sign up?!

Seriously, these are the same assholes who, in the face of logic and facts, spew the last resort of the willfully ignorant: "Get a job, losers!"

And collect unemployment even if they are vaccinated.

Without a national database, it's the same "honor" system as wearing a mask in a store or restaurant

Insurance premiums.
I think all public and private sector jobs have a charge for employee’s insurance, at least for family coverage.
COBRA is usually two or three times as expensive as the premiums were, so just getting UI is not a great trade-off.
