(21,338 posts)that religious fundies give about a date for the rapture. They are never deterred by the fact that it doesn't happen. Sooner or later another date gets set and they eagerly look forward to it.

(24,238 posts)They are in awe of them. They aspire to be bullshit artists on that level. And it didn't start with Trump. It's older than the USA. It goes back to when the clergy ran the world. They want a return to that. In 1776 a bold experiment was started to separate the politics from religion. We are witnessing the failure of that experiment.

(21,338 posts)destroy it. I have not given up the fight.
I am a member of a mainstream Protestant denomination. I grew up in a different, but also mainstream Protestant church.
I was 13 when the SC ruling ended mandatory Bible reading in public schools. It was law in PA where I lived. Teachers had to start the day by reading a chapter from the KJV.
The Sunday after the SC ruling, the pastor of our church gave a sermon in support of the ruling. He spoke on two main points. First, the only way to preserve our own religious freedom was to respect the freedoms of others on religion, including people who had no beliefs.
Second, he said that religious education is the responsibility of parents and the church. If people farmed it out to public institutions, they were shirking their own responsibilities and letting those institutions take over religion.
It was a good message for a young person to hear.

(24,238 posts)But in many areas of this country if you put forced prayer in schools on the ballot it would pass in a landslide. Supreme Court decisions (so far) are all that are keeping it from happening.

(9,104 posts)traitorous bag of shit.
His incompetence and purposeful lies about the pandemic are continuing to kill people even now, and, while his violent attempt to takeover of our government on January 6th failed, he continues to foment extremists who will act violently in the future.
Fuck him.
