My primary computer is set up to get the Microsoft feed of news stories.
For several weeks now I've noticed that the top stories delivered to me are increasingly right wing: Fox News, Washington Times chief among their sources.
I expect there are many hundreds of thousands if not millions of people who get the same feeds. For this reason, rather than change my settings (which I may do eventually) I want to let Microsoft know that I don't appreciate this tilt to the right.
(An example: Fox News story at the very top of the top of my feed only moments ago calls the Biden presidency "the most diabolical since slavery." Hyperbole, much?)
I've gone to the Microsoft website and clicking on "contact us" only brings me to where I can ask for technical assistance or buy another product. The phone numbers are for technical assistance.
I admit I'm not very computer savvy, so maybe I'm missing something.
So, two questions.
One) Are other people experiencing this same rightward shift in their Microsoft feed?
and Two) what do people recommend I do about registering a complaint about this?
Not only is Fox treated as a legitimate news source (which of course it isn't) but it's now coming up more often than MCNBC, CBS, AP, New York Times, Washington Post. It burns me to think so many people see Fox and Washington Times stories and believe them to be real.
Best wishes, and thanks for your feedback.

(32,610 posts)... it gives you MORE of what you've already clicked on.
If you clicked on porn, you get more porn. If you click on rightwing lies, that's what they send you more of. These browsers all keep track of our clicks, I don't think it's possible to change that.
1) If you want to surf the internet and never log in, then they still know some of what you've already clicked on in previous visits. You might avoid some of this "Here we know you want to see this" stuff.
2) You can delete your "cookies" after every time on the internet, and nothing will be saved from the last time online. That means your browser won't remember your logins or where you've been, so you need to have user names and passwords written down somewhere.
3) Get a VPN which is a Virtual Private Network, and the good ones cost money. The VPN makes you anonymous and the places you click on won't know who you are or what your preferences are. I pay $15 every quarter (3 months) for my VPN and it's definitely worth the money. I don't use it every time I'm online, but when I do use it, there's nothing else like it.
Good luck friend!

(3,289 posts)and noticed the same thing. I just dumped it and won't bother to try again. One of the biggest problems America faces today is the irresponsible media and its pathetic coverage of virtually every serious situation facing our country. Giving equal importance to proven false stories and politicians pushing factually wrong positions is doing terrible damage to the citizens whom rely on them for their news of the day.

(8,043 posts)but it still burns me to think of all the people who see this crap and take it seriously.
I suppose the only real way to register a complaint is to dump them.
I'd still like to give them a piece of my mind though.

(8,043 posts)I'm not aware of clicking onto more right wing sources--but I'll take your advice about clearing cookies and see what happens.
Thanks!

(1,109 posts)Sadly, I have no answers for you; however, I stopped their (MSN) news feed quite awhile ago, and now select my own news sources as I see fit. I would wish you the best of luck in this(your) endeavor but I sense you will not be able to change nor to modify that behemoth at all...ever.

(3,595 posts)I only use Google when I want to use Google. I never use Bing, but it is the default search engine on Windows 10.
I changed my search engine to DuckDuckGo

(1,366 posts)the msn.com website. Not only more fox news but Washington Examiner and other right wing trash. There is a section at the bottom of the website for feedback. I have used this twice with my complaints. No change. I have dropped them from my bookmarks and move to Google news for the most current news that I was seeking and watching their balance closely. No way that cookies are responsible for the shift in msn for me.

(10,132 posts)the only way I've found to complain is to talk to a Google employee at a party - who will then tell you that the product you're complaining about works just the way it should.
Seriously, back when I worked for a Fortune 100 company the best way to get action was to contact the CEO directly - all the email he got about the product line I supported ended up in my inbox, and he had a dedicated staff making sure the customer got a reply.

(33,100 posts)Using the instructions MS provided. It stays the way I've set it until I log out and back in again.
Then it's back to the OAN, FOX News, and Newsmax crap. It's not until I get to about the third page that I get some almost reliable fact based news.
How is this NOT a monopoly?
