My younger brothers just lost a 'surrogate mom' to COVID, lady who lives in Idaho ...
The mother of their life-long close friend Mark, who they've known since they were in grammar school ... just passed away in Idaho.
Mark, and my brothers ... they grew up in the East Bay Area, CA together, not sure when mom moved to Idaho.
She was not vaccinated.
Last time I saw my brother's friend Mark and his wife was at their 'box' at a Raiders game in Oakland, which they invited us to the day after our Dad's Memorial service in 2019. Dad was HUGE Raider fan, and we had a long history of going to Raider games with him.
Anyways, in the box that day, at some point they determined that Governor Gavin Newsom was in a nearby box ... you can pretty much see who's in the nearest 5-6 boxes at the Coliseum, because the walls are basically windows.
And at one point, Mark and wife were flipping off Governor Newsom through the glass window, apparently because 'Newsom Sucks' per them. This was 2019, pre-COVID.
I didn't press the issue given we pretty much all knew this was our last 'Oakland Raiders' game together (Las Vegas move was already known at this point), and Dad was the focus for me and my brothers.
Raiders won, BTW, in the last seconds, vs. the Lions.
I'm very sad for my younger bros and am trying to not broach 'politics' in their hour of sadness, but I have to say ... it's challenging.
