Republicans don't voluntarily give up power, so, why did they do so in this case? Is it because they would have had to work with the Democratic governor on redistricting? Or...?

They can absolutely draw lines that they're happy with... without using party affiliation in the criteria for drawing those lines.

They're just immunizing themselves against future court challenges.

The governor of NC plays no part in redistricting. He can’t veto the maps once they are passed.

I wouldn’t trust any Republican in NC. They had not controlled the legislature for 100 years before 2010. They won’t give it up easily.

How was it worded? They always play tricks about what words they use and placement of those words. I do not trust it.

Voted for an unbiased committee a couple of years ago. I am anxious to see what DeWine and his corrupt legislature will do.

John Boehner was in charge of the last horrible mess. Jordan District half way across the state. Then irony. Jordan pushed Boehner out!

on the Supreme Court and that partisan gerrymandering this time wouldn’t get past them? The SC made them redraw districts already because of this didn’t they?

only appear to be "fair," in order to avoid lawsuits. That, and the light was already shined on these cockroaches once. I doubt they want that to happen again. Gawd knows what else might get uncovered.

This is just cover for NC Repub legislators so they can say, when the new maps just magically turn out to be pro-Republican, that they didn't use any "partisan data" to draw up the maps. But of course they know exactly what areas are Repub or Dem without using any supplied data.
