However there are ALSO supposed to be air purifiers that have been purchased for each classroom, although there has been much controversy sparked over the types they selected (some are the "ionizing" kinds). I am guessing they were dazzled by the purifier companies' claims (and as I discovered, one of them has Birx on the board). But I also suppose there may have been some background concern (not even broached or voiced by the media) that when using regular "filter" style ones, there would have to be some sort of "maintenance" schedule requiring the filters be changed on a regular schedule. So there is a "consumables" requirement associated (with a cost), and having 2 myself, I know that the HEPAs are better preserved when the pre-filter is changed on a regular basis (usually 1 - 3 months depending on the overall amount of particulates in the air, where having pets would usually require a change more often).
So it will be interesting to see how well that will help as a further mitigation step in classrooms that are in century-old buildings with poor ventilation.
