(62,373 posts)We have a large meat processing plant. start @50 years (and 4 owners) back the employer started bringing in Mexican labor to break the unions and lower payroll. They succeeded wildly. Can't remember if doing that was illegal then, but no one did a thing.
And those laborers stayed and had families who also stayed and had families.
The community has worked extremely hard to bind the community together. For the most part it is working pretty well. The school system is one of the highest rated in the state (#1 in many categories for a while), business ownership very diversified and governmental units such as city council and police fully diversified.
Housing is totally diverse. There are still some pockets of bigotry. Those are mostly outside of town. In town I think most of us realize we need each other for the town to function.

(2,564 posts)for years because if they had bothered to visit their local school on the annual, Back To School Event, that nearly every school holds to allow the public to visit the classrooms and view work by the students that is posted on the walls of the classrooms and to observe the make up of the students and parents, they would be aware of the great change in demographics.
I haven't lived in every state, but the few I have always invite the whole community to visit the school, not just parents.
But they can't pull themselves away form the misinformation systems proclaiming this is a whites only nation, and those are the dominant themes, even on the so called MSM. They don't show many photos of actual classrooms. Classrooms made up of a lot of not blue eyed white children. It is like the ones who don't want the real history of the U.S. taught, they are afraid to look and see reality.
