Sometimes it's impossible to avoid buying from EVERY company that doesn't score 100% perfect on whatever scale is being used to measure them... but whenever I can, I try to avoid the most obvious and egregious GOP supporters and purveyors of crackpot conspiracy theories, or Trump and Russian intimate connections.

(21,127 posts)I saved $150 buying from them instead of Amazon. The Byrne guy no longer runs the company. So I dont feel bad about saving money and giving the company lower profit margins!

(3,406 posts)They are a lousy company for customer service. I bought a rug from them that was infested with moths! They wanted me to pay return shipping. I didn't want to touch it. Luckily my credit card company stepped in and we trashed the carpet and my charge was removed.

(34,136 posts)For a while they were selling Ott lights - used by a lot of needleworkers - for more than the manufacturer's list price, but touting them as discounted.
That is only one example I found of overpriced items at Overstock.com so I no longer even click on their links.

(21,857 posts)after comparing prices I ended up getting it from a place called Kens Sewing, they are in Alabama. It was $49 from them with free shipping, and $79 from all the other sellers. check them out: (I got the one with the bonus magnifier)

(34,136 posts)I bought one quite a few years back and used it a lot. Then it stopped working. I thought it was the bulb so spent the money for a real replacement Ott bulb. No go. So I tried to contact the company to see if it could be sent in for repairs. Ott never responded.
For years after, I used cheap Office Depot lights. Then my husband splurged and bought me a Stella LED with adjustable color temperature and intensity. I love that one, but he got a clamp on for taking to seminars - and they stopped allowing plug in lights because of fire danger.
The light I took to my last seminar was a musician stand light with LEDs - low power enough I can plug it into my power block and it will run all day. I can take the power block back to my room at night and recharge.
May splurge and buy a Stella or similar light for the living room where I do most of my stitching. I'm still using a cheap Office Depot light there and the color range is not good.
