The removal of both U.S. Postmaster General Louis DeJoy and Ron Bloom, chair of the Postal Service Board of Governors, were demanded Friday night after it was reported that DeJoy had purchased hundreds of thousand of dollars worth of publicly-traded bonds from an investment firm for which Bloom is a managing partnera transaction critics say is a gross breach of government ethics.
With Bloom and DeJoyboth appointed by former President Donald Trumpalready under fire by defenders of the U.S. Postal Service for a scheme to slow mail service and undermine the nation's federal mailing system from within, the new reporting by the Washington Post revealed that DeJoy "purchased 11 bonds from Brookfield Asset Management each worth between $1,000 and $15,000, or $15,000 and $50,000" between October of 2020 and April of this year.
In total, the purchases totaled up to $305,000 during that period. In response to the reporting, Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.)who chairs the House Subcommittee on Government Operations which has oversight of the Postal Serviceripped into both DeJoy and Bloom.
"This report is outrageous," Connolly tweeted Friday night. "DeJoy and Bloom are bandits, and their conflicts of interest do nothing but harm the Postal Service and the American people."

I know there are thousands upon thousands of stories like this.

(53,771 posts)of the entity Bloom is administrator of. This of course was not supposed to come out. Now that it has, the Biden admin has the opening it needed to get trumper DeJoy out.
What I don't get is why DeJoy is hanging on to that job like a pitbull? He's wealthy as hell and doesn't need to work (I mean, 305k just laying around). Is he such a loyal trumper that he's determined to keep being a mole for trump? Maybe he was one of the ones who thought the orange turd would be re-installed yesterday and he would be needed to fuck up future elections.

(53,771 posts)trump was still president and thinking trump might tap him for something bigger and more visible in his second admin, but that's certainly not happening.
Guess ego can be a powerful drug.
That company Bloom works for made around $200 to $300 off the sale of those bonds. Those are not bonds for that company. They just sell them. They are a financial services company. The bond commission are very little. Bloom, BTW, is a long time Obama appointee and administrator.

(53,771 posts)a Democrat allegedly, is the only one in the top echelon of the PO who backs Dejoy.
Read it and weep.
But DeJoy is holding on to a critical ally: the chair of that Board of Governors (and Trump's only Democratic appointee), Ron Bloom. He's been sticking by DeJoy and this plan. "We do not and will not always agree," Bloom said, but insists everyone "has the best interest of the Postal Service at heart."

(31,986 posts)That is exactly what you are saying.
On Labor Day, 2009 (September 7), President Obama formally introduced Bloom as the Administration's Senior Counselor for Manufacturing Policy. He was charged with working closely with the National Economic Council [to] provide leadership on policy development and strategic planning for the Presidents agenda to revitalize the manufacturing sector.

Before that he was a senior advisor to the President of the United Steelworkers Union. Why would Obama appoint someone who you say can be corrupted for $300?

(53,771 posts)mail-in ballots in the 2020 election which benefited trump? Why is he the only backing Dejoy?
Explain it please what the "Daily Kos" investigation is about. And it's obviously deeper than any $300.
former9thward
(31,986 posts)He has not said as far as I know. What I do know is that he is not doing so because his company, which makes hundreds of millions, made $300 selling some bonds.

(53,771 posts)What are you protesting then? Something shady is obviously afoot. DeJoy coughed up 305k, certainly not chump change, easily enough. There's probably more where that came from that went who knows where. That doesn't arouse suspicions in you worth meriting an investigation?

(31,986 posts)1 or 2 or 3% over 10 years. Such as US Treasury bonds. Yeah, tons of money being made there. Let's investigate everyone buying bonds.

(53,771 posts)cash benefited Bloom's firm. That's a huge conflict of interests right there. And then there's also the question which come immediately to mind is if the quasi-legal transaction could be an above board-appearing distraction from maybe an under the table transference of funds to who knows where?
The glaring point is it's a huge conflict of interest.
Come on. You have to know this. No one in government should make these kind of questionable transactions with a colleague's firm.

(31,986 posts)There is no 300k "infusion of cash". The so-called infusion of cash goes to the government or company issuing the bond. All Bloom's company is doing is selling it. They get a commission. About $300 on 300k.
brush
(53,771 posts)And perhaps it influences Bloom in backing DeJoy, the guy who tried to slow down the mail so trump would win.
Wake up. You want DeJoy to stay in that position and keep slowing down the mail, and maybe messing with the '22 election?

(13,568 posts)He is currently in a one-year "extra" term expiring then.
He was originally appointed to the board in 2019 to fill the one year remaining of a board member who left. Then somehow got this extra term of one more year.
Although nominally a Dem, he's another white fat cat. Sure would be nice to see some diversity on that board.

Im surprised the US Chamber and other business groups arent leaning on the GOP to get him out. He is costing businesses millions of dollars.

I suppose deJoy, Bloom, or both could be criminally charged, but that would not remove either from his office. It might be worth doing anyway, just for leverage.
Republicans have been working to bring this situation about since at least 2006, and maybe earlier. Only Congress can change those rules, and the GOPs in the House and Senate are working hard now to keep them busy with ther things. And the ones in the Senate would filibuster any attempt to 12make the USPS effective.
I think right now I may be angriest at all the Democrats who failed to vote in all the elections fro, 1980 goin forward, and that includes midterms. What we are reaping now was sowed during that 40+ years.

That is how the LAW is written.
