Hannie Schaft is little known outside her homeland whose heroic resistance against the Nazis evokes deep admiration and inspiration. If you need a model of dauntless courage and fierce defiance against nationalism, authoritarianism, white supremacy, and anti-democratic worldviews Hannie is the paragon.

(19,143 posts)played a much larger role in winning the war than most people realize.
The Germans didn't consider western European women a threat until it was already too late. The Germans' women were subjected to unpleasant tasks like the "Joy Division", and cleaning up the Nazi's "messes". Nazis used slave labor in many of their munitions factories because it wasn't considered "women's work".
Western European women worked in the RAF's tracking and plotting divisions. They were used as clandestine spies, radio operators, and in the French resistance, not to mention almost exclusively in the medical corps. They worked in munitions factories, and everywhere else in the war effort.
It's no stretch to say that without women's efforts, the Nazis may have succeeded in their quest of total world domination.
