A lawsuit has been filed against a Capitol riot suspect on behalf of a police officer who claimed his own life shortly after the insurrectionist on the U.S. Capitol.
On Friday, August 13, attorney David Weber filed the lawsuit with the U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C. on behalf of the family of the late Officer Jeffrey Smith, according to The Hill. The lawsuit accuses the suspect, only identified as John Doe, of striking Smith with "cane or crowbar."
"Officer Smith was in a particularly vulnerable situation because his face shield was up (leaving his face and eyes exposed)," reads the lawsuit.
The lawsuit also claims the suspects "targeted Officer Smith because his visor was in the upright position, making him vulnerable to this brutal and vicious attack."

(46,905 posts)1. It would be easy for medical/psychology staff to make that determination.
These kind of evaluation reports are written all the time.

The lawyer for a D.C. police officer who fatally shot himself nine days after he was injured confronting rioters at the Capitol on Jan. 6 says a group of cybersleuths has identified two of his attackers.
A blow to Officer Jeffrey Smiths head captured on video shows the 12-year veteran being knocked to the ground, apparently unconscious, according to a lawsuit Smiths family filed Friday against the alleged attackers. The lawsuit includes a report from a doctor who evaluated the case for Smiths estate, saying a traumatic brain injury led the officer to take his own life.
The family attorney, David Weber, said he turned the names of the potential attackers over to D.C. police. A department spokesman confirmed receiving the name delivered Friday; it could not immediately be determined if they received the second name provided Saturday.,,,,
Officer Smiths family has suffered terribly as they mourned amid uncertainty and doubt, said Forrest Rogers, a spokesperson for Deep State Dogs.
Rogers said about a dozen people devoted themselves to identifying Smiths attackers.
Most of that time went toward finding Smith in the crowd, he said, which they did for the first time on Thursday. After that, he said, they quickly identified one of the men with the help of open-sourced facial recognition software and reviews of photos and videos in which he wore a distinctive jacket.
