An Afghan military plane was downed by Uzbekistan’s air defense system on Sunday over an attempt to illegally enter the country’s air space, Uzbek authorities said Monday.

The downing took place in southeastern Uzbekistan, in the Surkhandarya region on the border with Afghanistan.

Strange they would shoot down a fleeing ANA flight when they allowed retreating militias and troops to cross he border.

A year or two ago, Iran accidentally shot down a civilian airliner taking off from Imam Khomeini International Airport. Given how fluid the situation in Afghanistan is right now, it wouldn't surprise me if there is some uncertainty in Uzbekistan regarding how to deal with situation at hand.
