The local paper has a relentless cadre of wingnuts who get in the paper at least weekly.
********** My letter:
If this letter sees the light of day it will be after days or weeks of Right Wing bashing of Biden over Afghanistan.
Remember we went there over 9-11, Bin Laden, and Al Quaida? But funny how we detoured into a random country Iraq and forgot Afghanistan for years.
If we had focused on that plan without Iraq and gotten out, we would have done fine. There were plenty of times the withdrawal should have happened, by previous presidents who couldnt take the pain. Biden is just who pulled the scab off.
So Wingers are calling it Bidens Saigon. The real comparison to Vietnam is that neither countrys people wanted us there. American casualties in Afghanistan, 2400; Vietnam, 58,000.
Senator Joni ERNST of Iowa says shes concerned Bidens exit will be another Benghazi, by which she really means the endless Right Wing drum beat demagoguing about Benghazi.
Afghanistan veterans are on record as their knowing the whole enterprise was futile and that any time and any way it ended the ending would be like this. Both the Taliban and the U.S. collaborators in Afghanistan knew it was coming and how it would play out. No matter when.
Remember some history, how the U.S. has been trying for a hundred years to convert, impose, colonize democracy on countries and cultures who dont want it Latin America, Vietnam, the Middle East? Or how Afghanistan has been invaded since Alexander the Great?
As for the knock on Biden for lack of preparation, remember February, 2020 when Trump agreed to withdrawal with the co-founder of the Taliban, whom he called trustworthy? How hes the only president to meet with an enemy combatant, raising him up, in line with his love of authoritarians, remember?

My local LTTE won't even print anymore of mine, unless I'm the only person who submitted one.
I don't believe in letting reich-wing loonies control the LTTE either.
