Republicans blame Biden for the US's chaotic withdrawal but are glossing over how Trump's Taliban

deal set up the disaster

A number of congressional Republicans are blasting President Joe Biden's handling of the US military withdrawal from Afghanistan amid desperate scenes of Afghans scrambling to get on airplanes out.

Yet the decision to leave the country was originally negotiated under former President Donald Trump and allowed the Taliban to strengthen its position against the US-backed government - a circumstance most Republicans skirted around in their criticism.

"The Biden Administration's botched exit from Afghanistan including the frantic evacuation of Americans and vulnerable Afghans from Kabul is a shameful failure of American leadership," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said in a statement on Sunday.

Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, who has long opposed a full military withdrawal from Afghanistan, also faulted Biden over the ongoing crisis in the country.

Don’t think trump had anything to do with this one. Now 500 other things are clearly his fault.

Believe me, I’m not going to support trump — or any other GOPer — because of a mistake in Afghanistan or if Biden makes a bunch of miscalculations. But I don’t think criticism of bad execution is off limits, at least it shouldn’t be.

pull out been successful you wouldn’t have posted anything about Trump.

Biden is responsible for this one. Everyone was supportive of the pull out. Sadly everything that could go wrong feels like it did go wrong.
Biden should take responsibility for this and move on to doing better things both here and abroad. He’s done a good job with things so far and he should remind the country

Really, what about the "5,000" members of the Taliban that were released from imprisonment (including the current head of their
government), you don't think that helped both their battle-readiness and morale?

for the evacuation not going as planned, but the U.S. military has been telling their Commander in Chief that there was this trained 300K man Afghan military with plenty of weaponry and their own air force, which is of course why Biden was surprised by the complete collapse.
