General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsMy ten year old great nephew in Georgia (older sister's grandchild) has Covid. He is
running a 101 + fever. I am so angry with my niece who lives with her mother and sister who is immunocompromised. She has not been vaccinated...my niece. And apparently, in Georgia schools don't have to send kids home who have Covid... I am so upset. I just made it home from vacation. My sister did not come nor did my nephew...was stuck in Charleston and Charlotte since Saturday. I loathe and detest those who have selfishly not gotten vaccinated and those elected who put their personal political ambitions above the needs of their constituents, particularly their lying about kids not getting this miserable virus.

I'm so sorry, and hope he quickly recovers, and that your sister and other niece don't catch it.

(21,432 posts)When I was a kid, the school nurse called parents for sick kids and arranged for someone to take them home.
Today more than ever it's important to get sick kids out of the school for their own comfort and recovery as well as for the sake of the other kids, teachers, and staff.
Sounds like grounds for a neglect lawsuit.

(17,282 posts)The adult responsible for him sure let him and her whole family down. You have every right to be angry. It is child neglect. Pure and simple.

(161 posts)I just re-met my 10 yo great nephew for the first time in 9 years.
Absolute joy. Bought him his first knife. Of course he didn't realize it was actually a manacure set. More importantly neither did his mom. LOL!
I'm so very sorry for your situation. I couldn't imagine the fear you're going through.
All the very best to you and yours.

(34,062 posts)It doesn't matter whether it is COVID or something else - it is standard to send kids home with a fever of 100.
Demsrule86
(68,552 posts)undoubtedly higher than reported. And they are not required to send the kids home. I find the entire thing shocking.
Ms. Toad
(34,062 posts)the rule was if your temp was over 100, you were home until it had stayed below 100 without fever-reducing medication for 24 hours.
No need to name it - just use standard health protocols.
Demsrule86
(68,552 posts)It is left up to the schools and my sister is a Democrat in a very red area.
Ms. Toad
(34,062 posts)regardless of the cause. In 6 decades, I have NEVER encountered a school district with a policy that kept children with a fever in school.

Ms. Toad
(34,062 posts)I bet it requires her to keep her child home for 24 hours after a fever of 100 degrees or more.
It's got nothing to do with red/blue/or any other political color. It is just standard school policy on fevers.
Demsrule86
(68,552 posts)no masking either. This is Marjorie Taylor Greene's district. My sister is a Democrat. Georgia's governor is like DeSantis and other GOP murderous governors.

(21,596 posts)Our school district in Georgia has a mask mandate for pre-K through grade 12 (students , staff & teachers), promotes vaccinations, provides a COVID19 website and email newsletter to report cases in every school, requires quarantine for sick students and employees, and notifies everyone who comes into contact with a person who has been diagnosed with COVID19.
Last week, two 8th grade students at my childs school were diagnosed with COVID19. I got this info directly from my childs school.
Fortunately, we live in a blue city
