(34,062 posts)As to all of the chatter about the need for boosters undermining confidence in the vaccine, has no one ever had a child?
See:
https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/imz/child-adolescent.html#birth-15
Check out how many of the childhood vaccines need 3 doses within roughly the same time period. I don't hear anyone saying we shouldn't give boosters to kids for DPT, HiB, or polio.

(34,062 posts)Those protect against a different type of influenza each year (the type they guess are coming around).
The ones I mentioned are closer to COVID, where there is a single target (here, the protein spikes), but it takes numerous shots/boosters to create immunity that will eventually offer long-term protecton.

(115,674 posts)they are injections that we don't think twice about getting. I got a booster smallpox inoculation in the late '60s before going overseas (and while smallpox was still a thing in some places) and didn't think twice about that either, even though that's a live virus that gave you an icky sore that itched.

(34,062 posts)We had an exchange student living with us the year befor smallpox vaccinations stopped being required in the US. It had been stopped years earlier in her country, so she had to get the vaccination just to come to the US - and it made a significant scar. She was pretty angry about it.

I do not want any relationship with antivaxxers or non-vaccinated by choicers. Period.

(792 posts)I'm not going to double-down on the currently available vaccines in case the booster has adjustments. Also, those extra weeks offer additional info as to which of the vaccine brands performed the best with variants.
In short, yes, but I'm not gonna sneak a 3rd shot in right now.

(7,886 posts)I have been wondering why they held off so long in pursuing it since the recommendation for boosters was made in April by the people who know it best. There really was was no cause for delay then. Making that clear then would have helped underscore how serious this all is.

(395 posts)I mean I probably can get it now if I really want it. I mean anyone can get a 3rd or even 4th shot if they choose too.
However, I'll wait till my parent's get their first.
Vaccine are easy to get now and there is a oversupply in my area already where they are throwing them away.
