Here we are losing HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS of AMERICANS to an insipid virus
and all they can focus on is the plight of poor Afghans who are dying.
When are we going to start focusing on our own god damn country?!!

Non-stop wars are very profitable. They don't give a fuck about any people anywhere except themselves.

It was unwatchable. The only people who seem now to be in favor of us staying until the end of time are talking heads and Republicans raising money off the event (Donald who???? We don't know any Donald who said he'd get us out of Afghanistan).

on 'our' side in 'our' rebellion share some overlapping characteristic with some Afghan fighters, e.g., an eagerness to defend our soil and even widespread religious zeal that included a good deal domination of men over women attributable to or coincident with their religious beliefs and practices. "As a wave of hysteria spread throughout colonial Massachusetts, a special court convened in Salem to hear the cases; the first convicted witch, Bridget Bishop, was hanged that June. Eighteen others followed Bishop to Salem’s Gallows Hill, while some 150 more men, women and children were accused over the next several months [not hanged]."

A direct answer might be that we had France and Lafayette whose own interests coincided with ours against England. Moreover, I believe that our tactics never coincided with the 'religious leaders' of Afghanistan.

Decent democratic republic. Even if the Afghanistan population fought, it might be ugly for a little while, but they can improve it over time and be like the United States.

If your world is dirt and mud and rocks where does the concept of "preference" or choice come in?

Here we are losing MILLIONS of AMERICANS to an insipid virus

The US is NOT losing 'millions' to COVID deaths (which implies 3 or more more million, as when it is simply 2 (no matter what you are counting), that is usually delineated as 2 or two or 'a couple' or bi, ie bilingual, bisexual, etc)

the US is (as if today, over 18 months in, a big part of which was pre mass vax) 2,361,202 deaths SHORT of 3 million

now (even with Delta)

The vax rate is going up (granted not fast enough)

Therapeutic measures are vastly better than during the first peak of deaths, back in April 2020

The US death total so far is only around 21.3% of the way to hitting the threshold that would make you claim valid, and the mitigation processes increase daily.

Now if (and this is theoretically possible) a VOHC (variant of high consequence) emerges that defeats the vaccines and other mitigation measures, and has a far greater case lethality rate than any so far, then we can revisit this.

I just have seen 18 months or so (NOT referring to you) of massive overstatements of death projections by some, some, back in April or May 2020 insisting that as high as 10 to 12 million would be dead by spring 2021 n the US. Also, there was a brief (thank fuck) period were many on the board were in an absolute whirlwind of panic (based off a few assholes on social media) that 3 to 5 million US schoolchildren were going to die. My nation of residence (and also one of citizenships) Sweden, was a target of wild over-estimations as well, with the doomers (based off the big lie we were literally doing nothing and going for a 'que sera sera' herd immunity strategy) on telly, on social media. and on here claiming we would have 100,000 to 300,000 (some even ludicrously said 500,000) dead by the end of spring 2021.

Here is the official data from Folkhälsomyndigheten (out state heath agency, similar to the US CDC/FDA)

https://experience.arcgis.com/experience/09f821667ce64bf7be6f9f87457ed9aa

We have 14,659 total deaths to date, and only 8 (that is 264 in US numbers) of them have schoolchildren age (5 to 19 years old), and that was with the schools (other than a majority of high schools for a period last year) never closed to any significant degree.

The youngest half of the Swedish population (so around 5 million people) have had, to date, only had 83 COVID-19 deaths, which is like 2,739 or so deaths out of 166,000,000 when adjusted to the US population size.
