Bill Lee's own COVID-19 task force is breaking ranks with the governor and his approach to the crisis, saying she is "fed up."
In an exclusive interview with NewsChannel 5 Investigates, Dr. Sara Cross of Memphis said she decided to speak up following Lee's decision to allow parents to opt out of their schools' mask mandates.
That decision, the infectious disease expert said, is not what the science suggests is needed.

The member of the governor's task force said its time for politicians to stop playing doctor and to listen to the real experts who know medicine.

If I am interpreting correctly, there were 2,900 new cases today.

(21,422 posts)are up to 120 for the county. But then it's a rural county where the total population of two small cities, some villages, and several hamlets altogether is about the same as a moderate size city. Also because it happened so quickly, from 0 to 120 in just 3 weeks. And people here still do not wear masks in spite of being in the substantial category of infection.
CVS employees are now wearing them. A few customers are. At a discount store, all tbe employees are masked, but one employee told me it's because none if them are vaccinated. Their masks are flimsy, loose fitting cloth ones. None of their customers wear masks except me and I go there as little as possible, for as short a time as possible.
Schools open in 2 weeks and there is no word yet regarding masks for students, faculty, and staff.
Summer events continue, with large crowd gatherings in physically close groups, no masks. I stopped going to the farmers' market because the layout of the booths forces people to gather shoulder to shoulder to buy something or just to get through the crowd. Tourist buses keep rolling in town from all over.
I am staying so close to home these days that I feel like a hermit.

I cannot even wrap my head around getting on a tour bus, can you?
It just goes to show that many are not taking this seriously.
I watched neighbor kids go to bus yesterday morning. 8 total, 5 elementary age & 3 highschoolers. 3 parents with younger kid group. Total of 3 masks. One pulled up over high school kid's nose. Looked like a very flimsey cloth masks.
None of the adults were masked.
I do not go anywhere near other people without donning an N-95. I do not understand.
This is like watching a lousy thriller. The killer is in the basement, the lights have gone out, and the lovely young lady heads to the basement with a candle to check the breaker box, unaware there is a murderer down there.
But how could anyone today be unaware? They cannot all be completely unaware, can they?
Boggles my mind.
Stay safe, my friend.

(14,489 posts)Politicians and preachers would be livid. However, maybe that's what's needed.
I'm very saddened by the behavior of the people in my native home state. The right-wing takeover after my youth is why I never go there these days.
