At kabul airport, military side, more order than before. Evacuations picking up. Seeing more Afghan families being taken through. Planes taking off. Base well guarded.
I understand chaos is normal in a country where a war was going on for 20 years. This wasnt a planned social entertainment event which went wrong-its an ongoing war ending-hence chaos. The rush to judgment and hysteria from media wasnt necessary. Actually, it was embarrassing

so in less than 48 hours... despite the Afghanistan military roll over and its government deserting its own people, the US continues to evacuate both its citizens and Afghans at risk... as was ALWAYS THE PLAN

Not sure I would be stoic and perfect in my reactions to the sights he sees.

(2,412 posts)He does a good job, but like too many Americans he is addicted to the forever wars. For too many they are a football like spectacle. Keep us focused over there so we don't notice how poor we are and lacking in social goods like Western Europe.

(6,265 posts)seeks drama, not truth. Rare journalists and Rachel Maddow media personalities do. Visual events like this and the media misconceptions they spawn are MSM bread and butter. They aren't looking for truth. The prior person who ruled this country poisoned this country. It is in an advanced stage of rot. Hopefully with the competent hand of the Bidens and Harris's we will get back on track in search of an equitable and all-inclusive society-culture.

(14,950 posts)and commentary in the middle east/central asia who were faced with the daunting prospect of re-orienting their professional life due to apparent sudden irrelevance plus embarrassing ignorance of their area of supposed expertise. It's not surprising they freaked out and shrieked like their hair was on fire. But it does highlight that most of them should not be listened to, they are too far up their own ass to see or speak clearly.

(1,910 posts)Engel just tweeted a video labeled Taliban with whips. It was actually an orderly line of people and one Taliban guy walked buy carrying a small whip like thing. Not unlike the way the authorities in India keep a line orderly.

(156 posts)But he was over the top these past few days. I had to turn off MSNBC because of the one-sided coverage they were giving the situation. Constant showing of the video with people hanging onto the plane was redundant. Was there ever going to be a good withdrawal that went according to plan? No. It was never going to be easy or safe. But the media coverage is way over the line. What about Haiti? What about the Covid situation? What about voting rights? what about womens rights here in the US? The withdrawal and the chaos surrounding it is a story, but it is not the only story pertinent to the times we are living in. The media is making this out to a story about Biden and failure because they have nothing else to get him on. IMHO.
