If the right wingers want to claim bullshit religious exemptions for everything under the sun, so should we!

I'm sorry, Arkansas, but my religion makes abortion permissible at any time so I am claiming a religious exemption from your abortion ban.

I'm sorry, Georgia, but my religion prevents the use of showing a photo ID to perform constitutionally-protected actions. Take your voter ID law and shove it.

I'm sorry, Texas, but in my store we do not allow open carry or guns of any kind due to my strongly held religious beliefs. Get out and stay out!

So to speak.

When I was in elementary school in the 1950s we all had to be vaccinated to go to school. There were religious exemptions then — but the number of parents seeking them was small and they belonged to recognized religious groups.

So when we reminisce about getting the Salk and Sabin vaccines, and how the parents of the town lined us up around the block, there were some parents who refused, but they did not negate the total.

The place where it fell apart was during the rise of the anti-vax movement, when parents were swayed by misinformation and refused to vaccinate their kids on ideological grounds — we’ve lost or are losing herd immunity for whooping cough and other entirely preventable diseases. Gods help us if polio reappears.
