Trumps imigration policy may be throttling economic growth
Everywhere I look and everyone I talk to has a huge problem with hiring enough help. Restaurants, farms, construction, all businesses that are booming where I live. No one can find any help.
Restaurant owners are waiting and busing tables, even cooking in some cases, farm crops from fruit to hemp to hops are rotting in the fields. Construction jobs are coming to a standstill.
We had for decades relied on immigrant labor from the south to fill most of the seasonal jobs and to supply us with talented craftspersons in the trades.
The border was closed and many fled from fear of Trump or the CoVid.
Every major economic growth in Americas history has hinged on a migrant influx of labor. Immigrant populations fueled the Industrial Revolution, built Americas rail roads, mined necessary ores, even fueled the knowledge base needed for the Atomic Age.
We shut off the tap that feeds the growth of our economy at a time when we need it most.
Maybe a few thousand Afghani peoples will fill the gap. Something has to happen soon.
