There are potential toxicities. So its something, you know, as you know, I think some people are trying to use it as a preventative, which I think is really kind of crazy. So please dont do that, Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs said during a discussion on Zoom today.
MSDH later confirmed to Mississippi Free Press reporter Nick Judin that the person was hospitalized in the state for ivermectin toxicity, but it is not clear whether or not the new patient was a resident. MSDH did not reveal when the incident happened or the patients current condition.
Despite a lack of scientific evidence that ivermectin is effective at treating COVID-19, it has become a popular go-to drug in some circles, especially among opponents of COVID-19 vaccines and public-health measures like masking. Its a similar phenomenon to the push last year for COVID-19 patients to take hydroxychloroquine despite studies finding it ineffective against the virus.

(972 posts)emergency use and safely given to hundreds of millions of people but
They will take a farm animal dewormer without looking at dosages (hey a cow weighs over a thousand pounds) or look at the warning label. You know, that thing that comes with the drug telling you what it is approved for?
Cows have 4 stomachs (and maybe a magnet or 2 if they had hardware disease - IIRC).
This guy doesnt have even 1 brain.
But dont take the vaccine. Its dangerous!

Mississippi State Health Officer Dr. Thomas Dobbs encouraged people with medical needs to consult with their doctors.
"There are potential toxicities," Dobbs said, referring to ivermectin use. "I think some people are trying to use it as a preventative, which I think is really kind of crazy. You wouldn't get your chemotherapy at a feed store. I mean, you wouldn't want to treat your pneumonia with your animal's medication. It can be dangerous to get the wrong doses of medication, especially for something that's meant for a horse or a cow."
MSDH Communications Director Liz Sharlot added: "You know, for the life of me, I don't get it. Dr. Dobbs, you have a vaccine that's safe and effective. And yet people, as opposed to getting the vaccine, want to go after these kinds of things."
Ivermectin, normally used to treat parasites in humans and livestock, is now being prescribed by quack doctors and promoted in online forums as the latest version of the Trumpian drug hydroxychloroquine. Doctors promoting ivermectin as a COVID-19 treatment include America's Frontline Doctors, the Trump-promoted Texas group that includes accused Capitol insurrectionist Dr. Simone Gold and "alien DNA" specialist Dr. Stella Immanuel (pictured).
