Only two days into the school year, the Horry County (S.C.) school district already has at least
104 active cases in students, including 12 staff cases and 51 staff members in quarantine, according to Horry County Schools (HCS) COVID-19 dashboard.
The district has chosen to follow a state proviso indicating
school districts are prohibited from requiring masks in schools, and most students have returned to the classroom full-time. Only around 1,600 students had chosen the virtual option, compared to thousands who chose to go to school online last year.

(34,195 posts)Horry County (pronounced O'Ree) was created from Georgetown District in 1801.
The county was named after, and in honor of, Revolutionary War hero Peter Horry who was born in South Carolina around 1743.
Horry started his military career in 1775 as one of 20 captains, elected by the Provincial Congress of South Carolina, to serve the 1st and 2nd Regiments. In 1790, he was assigned to the South Carolina militia under Brigadier General Francis Marion, nicknamed The Swamp Fox.

(19,233 posts)Only two days in isn't enough time to get exposed and develop symptoms.
Those kids were all infected before school began, and came in contagious. Then they shared classrooms with hundreds of other kids.
That's actually a lot worse.
