(82,849 posts)One review I read mentioned the incredible cost ($47 million or more, a fortune at the time) for a rather pedestrian rom-com. The reviewer said, "Does it have $47 million worth of laughs? No, but what do you care, it's not your money." Approached from that direction, the movie was a harmless little confection.

(989 posts)Someone on DailyKos came just short of suggesting that Biden should be brought before the ICC at The Hague for what he termed "criminally negligent homicide". And as far as I know, his diary is still up, and even got a few recommends.
I wish I were joking.
Biden probably could have pulled it off more cleanly, but to suggest that he is criminally responsible for any deaths that have and may yet occur from the pullout is disgusting.

(13,065 posts)The MIC is SO desperate to thwart this that this mistake-finding is all theyve got. And this is not past tense. Its real time. When its all said and done THEN maybe these types of criticisms will be valid. But criticism or not, like it or not, its happening.
Fuck the MIC.

(1,942 posts)Yes, that was pretty one-sided as Warfield did well with the Dolphins although they were a run-first team.
Too bad Bill Nelsen suffered some injuries as he led the Browns to playoff berths in 1969 and 1971.
Botany
(70,429 posts).... good O line too. And the defense was solid. Don Shula: "Paul Warfield for a person from Purdue who
has never played a down in the NFL? Fine I'll take it."
Prof. Toru Tanaka
(1,942 posts)No doubt he saw what a great talent Warfield was from coaching against him and jumped at the chance to get him for a Miami team that turned the corner in 1970 and became a playoff contender.
In looking at Warfield's career, there are two eye-popping stats that stand out:
His average of 20.1 yds per reception is 4th all time.
He scored 85 touchdowns receiving on 427 catches- 1 TD per 5 catches, an outstanding success rate.
In today's pass-happy NFL, many receivers have more lifetime catches and receiving yards than HOFer Paul Warfield. But any list of the top 15 or 20 receivers that doesn't have his name on it is flat-out wrong.
He was also a track and field star at Ohio State along with being an All-American football player.
As for Leroy Kelly, he had a tough act to follow in Jim Brown but had an outstanding HOF career of his own.

and moved the team to Baltimore the best move he made was to get out "the football biz" and let Ozzie
Newsome run the football operations.

(406 posts)In my own words:
An individual walks by a river and notices an infant drowing, so naturally s/he jumps in and saves the child. S/he barely gets to shore and notices another infant and the story continues in that vein for a while, with the rescuer getting increasingly more exhausted. As there is no one else around, s/he finally must make the decision to head upstream and find out who is tossing the children in the water, leaving, obviously, at least one child to drown.
Unpleasant does not even begin to express the situation in Afghanistan, but like the individual with the babies, at some point one must go to the source and cut off the problem at its root. Obviously, as with the analogy, there will be loss of life. However, at some point, as with the stoy, it becomes not only impractical, but also just a little insane to keep rescuing innocents without addressing the source of the problem.
In this case, there was nothing that could be improved in Afghanistan and the hard decision unfortunately leaves some victims. But, it is no longer practical nor sane to continue following the same method for untold years, however many innocent individuals might be saved, as there is a non-ending source of victims available to the Taliban.

(1,509 posts)I just received and deleted an email from my Republican "representative" in the House. Seems as though Rep. Stefanik has filed a bill to establish a "commission modeled on the 9-11 commission" to investigate the US role in Afghanistan.
So -- let's not investigate a terrorist attack on the US Capitol instigated by the twice-impeached stone-cold loser, but let's get after a 20-year war.
