These are the last two Facebook posts from an Aroostook County woman before she passed away from COVID-19 last week. They haunt me I cant stop thinking about them.
Cindy Johansen, former chair of the Aroostook County Republicans, co-founder of the Maine Grassroots Republican Caucus, and wife of state Rep. Chris Johansen (R-Monticello), succumbed on August 10 to a disease that she claimed not to fear.

(42,862 posts)Here's her UGLY and mean-spirited profile photo "custom frame" (below) ... what a selfish and hateful little witch. Read her posts and updates. So much hostility. How can anyone have sympathy for a dark and depraved person like this? She clearly has (well... she HAD) anger issues.

(21,430 posts)people have been persuaded to fear the preventions more than the disease. It is also sad that we are so polarized that we have lost the ability to feel anything for "the other."
I am angry about the leaders who dupe people into believing that they are safe without vaccines and masks. I am angry that their followers become victims of disinformation and then make victims of others, too, with their disregard for precautions.
But the whole situation is sad for all of us, that as a society we have come to the point of politicizing a disease and cheering the deaths of the opposition.

K?
PS who polarized masks and vaccines?
Liberals? Democrats? DUers?
Nope
When someone claims "we" polarized the pandemic, I say bad words in their general direction.
Yup
wnylib
(21,430 posts)so personally since I did not specifically accuse you of anything.
Neither did I say that liberals and DUers polarized mask wearing. But since you bring it up, there are people from the left who follow a "natural" approach to life that makes them believe that exercise, supplements, and whole foods are enough to fight a deadly virus, so they refuse vaccines.
I am merely lamenting the effects of polarization on all of us, how it makes us less caring. I am not in any way suggesting that we should embrace views and behaviors that are anathema to us.

(58,785 posts)I was thinking about what has happened to conservative culture. Conservative morality has always been generally focused more on protecting the wellbeing of the community, over the individual. That had many fine benefits. People with traditions of caring for neighbors they barely knew changed to knowingly spreading death indiscriminately through their communities.
All who aren't mentally handicapped are doing it knowingly. All excuses were manufactured to deny that truth.

So youre probably right. They will be the end of us eventually. But my college roommate once said you shouldnt hate a stupid person. It only affects you because, well, theyre stupid and thus unaware of the damage they cause.
I guess I go back and forth.

No sympathy for the innocently stupid, the willfully stupid, and the alien DNA epic stupid. They are destroying lives, economies, futures.
People are not "misled" or "confused" or "torn about the right thing to do." They are choosing this, and I am done with them. No sympathy from me, except for those who are too young or too compromised to get the vaccine.
