Avanti Frozen Foods is significantly expanding a frozen shrimp recall originally issued in June due to potential salmonella contamination. The company is voluntarily recalling dozens more frozen cooked shrimp products out of an abundance of precaution, reads the company announcement shared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
The recall expansion, which includes products from 11 additional brands, covers a large amount of product that has not been associated with any illness, according to the notice. The decision to expand the recall was made following discussions with FDA and CDC and reflects Avantis commitment to public health and safety. Related to this risk of salmonella contamination, the company also recently announced three much smaller recalls on sushi rolls containing Avanti shrimp, which were sold at particular California locations of stores including Target and Whole Foods.
The expansion includes multiple lots of various-size packages of frozen cooked, peeled, deveined shrimp (some of which include cocktail sauce) sold at retailers nationwide. The expanded list includes additional expiration dates of previously recalled shrimp products named in the original announcement, sold under brands including: 365 by Whole Foods, CenSea, Chicken of the Sea, CWNO, Hannaford, Honest Catch, Meijer, Open Acres, and Waterfront Bistro. A number of new products from additional brands are also being recalled now, including: Ahold, Big River, First Street, Food Lion, Harbor Banks, HOS, Natures Promise, Sandbar, Sea Cove, Wellsley Farms, and WFNO Brands.
The recalled shrimp products were distributed throughout the country from November 2020 to May 2021 but may have been available for sale more recently than that. The FDA notice has a full list of recalled product names, descriptions, lot codes, and expiration dates. (And if you missed the first recall announcement, see the first FDA announcement for details on those recalled products.)

(102,225 posts)I'm guessing now would be a very bad time to order that. Sigh. It has been months and months and months since I've gotten take-out or eaten anything but my own bad cooking... At least it is safe, I guess.

(10,429 posts)Once from a chinese drive-through take-out lunch that I guess I should not have gotten at 2 pm, maybe it had been sitting too long on the buffet, and once from supposedly fresh shrimp I bought at Hy-Vee. I know I cooked that thoroughly, but got sick anyway.
