(41,757 posts)The second one, everyone got caught flat footed by a last minute change in track. I was ready with supplies but had to shelter in place. Again, terrifying.
I evacuated for Opal and was glad I did.
Listen to the experts. If they say get out, get out.

(8,203 posts)Batten down the hatches New England..spent many a last two weeks over Labor Day on the cape..grew up in Mass. and moved to AZ in '94..native New Englanders KNOW and have been preparing probably since Monday..Boats out of the water..hurricane lamps..water, etc etc..
I fear for those who are new to the area..hopefully they are paying attention..not standing on the beaches of South Beach on Marthas Vineyard..(for sure the ferry's have drawn up "Last Ship"..timelines..
P-Town to Chatham, Chatham to Falmouth, Falmouth to Plymouth..and heed the warning re" Sagamore Bridge..Bourne Bridgein Buzzards Bay..
I will say, my Mom couldn't get close enough to the ocean during a storm..one of the cottages at White Horse Beach..right on the water..firmly etched in my mind..stay safe ..

(4,429 posts)but here in New England - the ground just can't take it the same way it could down there. It's going to be a nightmare - even if it hits as a tropical depression (huge trees, not those spindly pines or palm trees) will come down everywhere. Roads will wash out all over - and our soil just doesn't know what to do with flooding.
Not to mention my basement.
We have basements...........

(63,221 posts)The regular weather forecasts didn't really seem very alarming, but then every once in a while I will hear something else online that makes me think I might be missing out on something. It looks like it's going to be primarily hitting LI, CT, RI and the Cape and Islands the hardest. Seems like we will get some of it here, but not the worst of it.
