Hawaiian Airlines: We have been called to duty under the Civil Reserve Air Fleet ...

We have been called to duty under the Civil Reserve Air Fleet to support the emergency evacuation of Kabul, Afghanistan. We are proud to join the U.S. DoD & our fellow air carriers in the humanitarian effort to bring to the U.S. our citizens & the Afghans who supported them.

authorization for the select few participating civilian pilots to wear them on their uniforms.

I know Sen Kaiali'i Kahele would volunteer in a New York minute if he could. Has he said anything about it?

In 2005 the airlines were guaranteed $500 million in contracts with an additional $1.5 billion in additional contracts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civil_Reserve_Air_Fleet

I would think they would be more interested in the hardware, but I am not in any way sure how this works.

Civilian Reserve Air Fleet activated aircraft will not fly into Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul. They will be used for the onward movement of passengers from temporary safe havens and interim staging bases. Activating CRAF increases passenger movement beyond organic capability and allows military aircraft to focus on operations in and out of in Kabul.

This is the third CRAF activation in the history of the program. The first occurred in support of Operations Desert Shield/Storm (Aug. 1990 to May 1991), and the second was for Operation Iraqi Freedom (Feb. 2002 to June 2003).

Hawaiian Airlines runs a fleet of A330s and A321neos. A couple of A330s will come in very useful here.
