I recall early in the pandemic, the Star Ledger, our regional/state paper, wrote up bios of people who had died of Covid. This was before the vaccine. I would read these bios and just be so sad about the people and talents we had lost--there was a 50-year old high school principal, popular teachers that the students adored, mayors and town council people, there was the garbage collector that everyone loved, a student who took on transporting groceries for older people who couldn't get out because of the pandemic--it was just astounding at the talent we lost.
This is a case where people chose not to make themselves safe, so it is a different kind of thing. I hope people learn from it.
