Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, who has been staying with one of his sisters in Westchester County in the final days of his third term, recently has asked staff members at the Executive Mansion if anyone would like to keep his dog, Captain, who has remained at the state-owned residence after the governor moved out last week.
Captain a high-strung mix of shepherd, Siberian and malamute has nipped a few people since Cuomo adopted him in 2018, the sources said, and a mansion staffer recently took the dog home for a few days but decided he was too much. The source, in an interview on Saturday, also said
the dog had nipped at "several State Police members" as well as staff members, "and the governor would just laugh.
Cuomo, who struggled to control the dog during that public introduction, said his daughters had suggested getting the dog but were "nowhere to be found now."
"He will only urinate indoors," Cuomo said three years ago.
"He has some kind of climate sensitivity that overpowers his bowel movements."
Richard Azzopardi, a senior adviser and spokesman for the governor said the arrangement was only "temporary" because
the governor is planning to take a vacation and the governor had more important things to deal with (than a dog) ...

(7,820 posts)Dont treat your companion animals like theyre disposable. I dont know how accurate this is, but too many people do this, and its always the dog or cat that suffers. Thinking of the apparent rash of people turning back in their covid dogs to shelters that they adopted while they were going to be working from home and now dont have time for cause they have to go back to the office. These decisions are a decade long commitment.

(16,843 posts)A lot of these politicians get pets because the press encourages them to. They always ask whoever is going to be President if they're going to have a White House dog and cat. So the politician will pick out some pets for everyone to go gaga over, but the politician won't really have much of an attachment to the animals. It's all so phony, and they do it over and over again.

Times Union should have devoted as much effort into revealing the crimes of NY's own, Donald Trump, way back in 2016 thru today.
But never mind the international criminal org of Trump, there's a hard hitting Dog Story involving Cuomo that deserves the reader space far more than Trump's foreign connections & deals made in America's name, with a bunch of authoritarian mobsters.
Just sayin...

Based on that logic, are we only to talk about Trump's crimes and nothing else?

(7,510 posts)While Huskies originated with people who often kept their dogs in their dwelling, the Malamutes originated with people who kept their sled dogs outdoors.
They are both bigger and less socialized than Huskies. Crossed with the guard dog strains of German Shepard, this dog could be a real handful.
He could be a good addition to a sled dog team for an experienced musher.

(6,081 posts)This poor dog who obviously has a lot of issues just discarded. He requires someone with a lot of knowledge to fix the obvious problems he has and it's no small feat. We just adopted a dog that was discarded by the owners because he obviously didn't meet the tough standards of a show dog. For his first year he was feral, left on the ranch to fend for himself with other dogs. Then somehow a lot of abuse happened. He was rescued by an organization and fostered for a year and then we got him 5 months ago. It's a lot of hard work and patience and regression with him. He is coming around a little but it's an inch at a time. It's always cruel and stupid brutish humans that do this. Personally I have no truck with people like that. And I have no sympathy for the ex-governor in his uncaring treatment of women and his mock "I am an animal lover" bullshit.
Someone needs to take this beautiful dog who has expertise and patience. I wish him well. Hugs good dog.
