The Sturgis Rally is in Sturgis, South Dakota at the far western end of Meade County. This year the rally ran from August 6-15.
The main graphic above shows an incredible spike just one week later far higher than the spike in 2020.

Things will probably get worse in the coming weeks. The positivity rate of 27.8% means there are a lot more cases not being tested. An infection rate (Rt) of 1.6 means there is a lot of virus floating around.
So anyone who attended Sturgis may have brought COVID home with them.

(12,265 posts)Loaded up their two Harleys, took a week off and headed for Sturgis. He told the whole neighborhood. There is a daycare right next door to him. They wear their attendance like they do their Trump gear, as a band of honor to own the libs.

(24,455 posts)If so, we really don't know the extent of the impact this event will have in the other 49 states.
Damn shame we could not track the attendants to see how the entire group fares. It would also help us in assigning blame and economic damages to the State of SD for allowing this kind of event to occur with no rules for limiting the unmasked/unvax'd.

(25,927 posts)They are heavily dependent upon tourism, so reluctant to curtail an income generator like Sturgis.

(53,410 posts)I seem to recall reading something about that. Through their iPhone use during and after the Sturgis event. They did a lot of spreading of COVID.

(24,455 posts)the problem could be peaking in November at 500 cases per 100K.

(22,112 posts)Sturgis. Or, this is probably against the ACA, don't pay their medical bills since they openly ignored common sense, put the public at risk around them, at home and in Sturgis, and all while traveling to/from Sturgis...SD is far more interested in getting money at the expense of other states (all while sickening their residents too), then the common good of all.

(8,810 posts)is every bit as despicable as Trump himself.......No Shit.
Sturgis gathering is every bit a scam as many other things put together that Trump did. And a thousand times more despicable.
She invites 400K to 700K unmasked and unvaccinated from all over the nation to be elbow to elbow with all the others for over seven days. THEN, she sends them all back home across the entire U.S. for those states to suffer the covid consequences that her state won't have to deal with or pay for. Last year, she made 70 million, YES SEVENTY MILLION in taxes off all these people. Not tax on seventy million, but seventy million in tax collected............Not a bad take for an entire state that has a population of half a million or so.
AND THEN, SHE TURNS AROUND AND DOES IT ALL OVER AGAIN, WITH EVEN MORE PEOPLE ATTENDING !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Un-fathomable............
Last year she couldn't even handle the residents of her state that caught Covid from the event, and then, ended up trying to send them all to adjoining states so she didn't have to deal with them, or more importantly, pay for them.
She totally deserves the crudest word I NEVER use to describe a woman.
