Its also an opportunity for us to say to the hard-core vaccine refusers: Were done with you.
Well treat you when you come to the hospital, of course, because thats how medicine works; while doctors and nurses dealing with the wave of covid-19 patients caused by the delta variant might like to turn away anyone who refused to take a vaccine, they wont. But its time to refocus our outreach efforts and our public and private pandemic policies so that accommodating, understanding and pandering to the refusers is no longer one of our chief concerns....
...
But just as the virus itself will always be with us, so will the adamant refusers. Theyll be trying out insane new treatments, while the rest of us shake our heads at people whod rather gargle with turpentine (or whatever the next Facebook remedy is) than get a free lifesaving vaccine. Theyll keep engaging in unhinged and violent public behavior (like assaulting teachers over mask policies), for which they should just be arrested. Our only concern should be keeping ourselves safe from them; they deserve no more consideration than that.
They wont disappear, but we can treat them like social pariahs. And if they dont like it? They can go ahead and wallow in their fantasies of oppression and courageous independence. Nobody said freedom was free.

(90,562 posts)And I am so ready for this opinion piece.
My husband and I are about to crawl back in a hole, and because why? Because so many people expect us to conform to their foolishness and theyre living in La-La Land where they think they wont get hurt and after all we are clearly neurotic.

(21,346 posts)I am totally serious that this is what we need to do. So give them care by qualified medical people. Just don't let them disrupt the regular functioning of hospitals that the rest of society needs.
You might call it "separate but equal."

(22,665 posts)It's been that way from the beginning. Reduce your exposure to Kool-aid drinkers. Their brains are broken. Probably due to lead exposure. They want and need to live in their own bubble. Let them. Otherwise, avoid them as much as possible.

(63,801 posts)who refuse to get the vaccine life should be harder for them. No admitting into businesses, they are taking beds away from other medical needs such as cancer treatments or elective surgery. They are making those who believe in science a living hell. If they don't want the vaccine they should tested every week.
Their heads would probably blow up if they believed in truth and facts. Propaganda is deadly and it works.
