Above the Laws 2020 Lawyer of the Year Marc Elias is leaving Perkins Coie after 28 years to start his own firm focusing on preserving democracy in the United States. I dont know if this counts as a lateral move, but it looks like some folks would have rather hed maintained billables at his former firm and chain.
Its not surprising considering Eliass laundry list of accolades, including but not limited to representing:
According to Bloomberg Law, Elias isnt spinning off alone:
Elias is taking 13 lawyers, including 10 partners, with him from Perkins Coie, according to a statement released by the massive law firm Sunday. The move will allow the new Elias Law Group to engage more directly in the political and electoral process, Perkins Coie said in the statement.

I was part of the Clinton Victory Counsel program where we reviewed 6000+ lawsuits involving TFG, his family and companies. The DNC has this research https://politicalwire.com/2019/09/08/inside-democrats-2020-trump-war-room/
The DNC research team has mined thousands of lawsuits from nearly 50 states as part of a massive new trove on President Trump that will be weaponized through pols and reporters in key battlegrounds, Axios reports.
This new plan shows what Democrats think Trumps biggest vulnerabilities will be. And unlike in 2016, Trump now has a policy record.
The research includes roughly 7,000 lawsuits, as well an extensive document detailing every time then-candidate Trump told supporters at his 2016 campaign rallies that Mexico would pay for the wall.
A source familiar said this document will likely find its way to local reporters, groups and Democrats in battleground states as Trump diverts funds from the military to pay for his border wall.
