Gingrich's Bain Capital "Attack" is a Potemkin Operation

It's a GOP operation to get the whole thing off the table before the Democrats get to it. You do it now so it will seem like old news in July and August. Period. Gingrich is now even admitting he "crossed the line," and Romney was completely prepared with response statement that use all the recent Frank Luntz buzzwords against the Occupy movement (how many times have you heard the term "free enterprise" in the last two days?).

The whole thing is a set-up, period.

They're going to try to run away from Romney's awful record by getting out in front of it now, then claiming it's all retread later.

Unfortunately for them, his record at his previous employer is even worse than his Bain Capital record from what I've been hearing. Not a peep about that yet.

If they really just wanted to tee the issue up so that it was old news by the fall, they would have had someone in the pundit class raise it, not the other candidates. These guys really don't like one another and Newt is a bomb-thrower. A lot of folks are really really pissed off at Newt for leading this charge and his walking back the issue isn't going to make them happy again. Newt isn't into voluntary self-immolation. He did it because he can't help it, not to help Romney.

It's a coordinated effort the sophistication of which we've never seen.

Or maybe not.
