Ohio State to Require COVID Vaccinations
Ohio State has made the leap into the vaccine mandate world. My daughter is a Sophomore there so this makes me very happy.
They had tried to be reasonable by not mandating, but strongly encouraging it through differentiated testing and isolation protocols. But the jackasses in the Ohio State House tried to make it illegal for them to do that. The only caveat was that ban on different treatment only pertained to the vaccine while it was not approved. I was hoping that they would pull an FU on the State House fuckers and take the policy even farther when it became allowed. And so it has come to pass. https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/education/2021/08/24/covid-19-ohio-state-now-requiring-students-staff-vaccinated/5577333001/ As students return back to campus for fall semester, Ohio State announced Tuesday afternoon that it would require Buckeyes to be vaccinated for COVID-19. This is a big deal as one of the largest public universities in a solidly red state. This is going to light up the parents Facebook page but I will be drinking in the conservative tears. Well Played Ohio State ![]()

They may have to take a loss on the 2021-22 term.

2. Just about the same time, many will become eligible for booster shots too.
Don't want to lose loved ones near the holidays; break-throughs are bad enough and, worse, the kids are still vulnerable to the more aggressive variant! Go Buckeyes! O-H...

3. I-O...As much as it pains me to say that
I am a Miami Hurricane so it is a strange allegiance for me. We are still salty about a VERY late penalty flag in 2003 that cost us a Championship.
Not that I am holding a grudge or anything. It could be worse. It could be the Florida Gators. ![]() But they have been good to my daughter so.. I-O |

4. OSU couldn't mandate until FDA gave full approval.
OH governor signed an order preventing state universities from mandating vaccines that were not fully approved.

6. They never gave any indication they would go this direction even after approval
OSU gave no indication that they were going to mandate. They put in protocols that unvaxed would be subject to more frequent testing and isolation if exposed.
The law that the state house passed went so far as to say that they could not treat them differently in any way while it was experimental. Fortunately, the law didn't kick in until October so it never had any impact to the way they operated. This mandate is all new from them |
