I told her to take her plague rat ass and get teh fuck away from me.
she started to say something else but i told her to smarten up and listen to science instead of right wing lies. then i turned around and walked away
i saw her go over to her husband and start finger pointing at me but i just kept on walking.

(8,387 posts)A lot of things clear up on their own or come and go.
You can have severe joint and muscular pain which, once you get all fired up at the Jesus meeting, magically vanish - at least long enough to throw your cane up on the stage and dance about before the collection baskets come round.
But, yeah, show me a fractional percent fatal disease, and I will show you the promised land of snake oil. Whatever it is you are giving out, it's going to "cure" them most of the time.
Marthe48
(16,898 posts)that many microbes, viruses, etc. do get less deadly. The teacher who mentioned it pointed out that a organism will be more successful if it infects more hosts, and if hosts die before they can infect others, then the organism might not be as successful.
I hope Covid follows that path.
wnylib
(21,340 posts)eventually. But in the meantime it is doing a lot of harm and the potential still exists for a deadlier mutation to occur. If it does, it will, as you point out, defeat itself and die, but will take many people out with it in the process.
Our best hope right now is to stop being hosts for its mutations.
Right now, we are in a world of hurt, and it probably won't get better in my lifetime. The vaccine is as close to a magic bullet as we can hope. I have faith that the scientists might add improvements that will help even more.

(25,816 posts)A deadly, terrible disease that had been around thousands of years. Those who survived were typically scarred badly. I understand that a person without smallpox scars was automatically very attractive.
In the late 19th century two separate mutations occurred in smallpox. One in the U.S, the other elsewhere, perhaps Africa but I'm not sure. Anyway, smallpox now had two different versions: Variola Major and Variola Minor. Major was the one that scarred and killed. Minor rarely killed and never scarred. Plus, because those with Minor were not as sick and could continue moving out and about when infectious, that version was far more readily spread. So Minor was very much replacing Major everywhere to the point where it was moving in the direction of becoming a childhood disease more or less like measles, mumps chicken pox.
By the beginning of the 20th century the smallpox vaccine became widespread, and smallpox was eventually eliminated entirely.
But yeah, the getting less deadly is very important.
The worrisome thing about Covid is that the Delta variant is definitely more contagious than the earlier versions. I'm not at all knowledgeable as to whether it's more or less deadly.

(16,898 posts)I check worldometers daily. Numbers of deaths from covid-19 was down under 4,000/day/world, and under 300/day/US. In the last 10 days, back up to over 10,000 deaths/day/world, and over 1000 deaths/day/US. I also check Ohio Covid dashboard, which is not entirely updated every day, but shows daily confirmed cases, and ICU admissions. We are averaging 1000 new cases a day/state. Deaths have gone from under 30/week/Ohio to over 100/week/Ohio. More than 100 ICU admissions since last week. Disheartening.
Total number of Covid deaths in the world is over 4,492,000. Total deaths in the US is almost 652,000.

(5,088 posts)There are plenty of people who have survived Covid who probably wish they had not. There are some really nasty after-effects and most of them seem permanent. So, in that context, I say that those who refuse to think of the greater good and prefer to be self-absorbed asshats and whom contract this can live with the results... hopefully for a long tortuous life. I am disgusted that I feel this way, but the reicht wing has gone way too far in the name of 'sticking it to the libs'.

(2,809 posts)I had the COVID early on in the pandemic. Working in medical Xray/CT, undoubtedly caught it from a patient. I spent the sickest weekend of my life sitting up two whole nights to move air. Sat meter was screaming at me. I exhausted two whole inhalers.
Now I'll admit something a bit embarrassing here. I stayed home roughing it out because the duty ED doc on duty at the nearby facility I worked at... let's just say I wasn't fond of. (trumper)
I considered going to the next further hospital. But my dog had just had surgery and needed someone to watch him.
I've become totally inhaler-dependent asthmatic ever since, every day. My arthritis has given me hell this whole last year and a half, although starting on mega-dose Onega-3's is helping.
I'm on a dual-escape sabbatical, refugee from the fires as well as Delta variant, scares the hell out of me despite being vaxxed.
I'm not ready to retire yet. But I won't return to the front lines until after I've had my 6 month booster.

(21,340 posts)then you could team up together on this. I am thinking of an early scene in the movie, Ghost, when Sam and his friend Carl get on a crowded elevator. Carl begins coughing deliberately and Sam plays along, asking what his doctor said. The two then play off of each other to create a scary story of a contagious disease that makes everyone on the elevator cringe and back away from them.

(4,473 posts)Of Mrs Murphy and the flood.
A terrible storm came into a town and local officials sent out an emergency warning that the riverbanks would soon overflow and flood the nearby homes. They ordered everyone in the town to evacuate immediately. Mrs. Murphy, a faithful Christian, heard the warning and decided to stay, saying to herself, "I will trust God and if I am in danger, then God will send a miracle to save me."
The neighbors came by her house and said, "We're leaving and there is room for you in our car, please come with us!" But Mrs. Murphy declined. "I have faith that God will save me."
As she stood on the porch watching the water rise up the steps, a man in a canoe paddled by and called , "Hurry and come into my canoe, the waters are rising quickly!" But she again said, "No thanks, God will save me."
The floodwaters rose higher pouring water into the living room and she had to retreat to the second floor. A police motorboat came by and saw her at the window. "We will come up and rescue you!" they shouted. But she refused, waving them off saying, "Use your time to save someone else! I have faith that God will save me!"
The flood waters rose higher and higher and Mrs. Murphy had to climb up onto the roof.
A helicopter spotted her and dropped a rope ladder. "Climb the ladder and we will take you to safety!" But she still refused, "No thank you! God will save me!"
Shortly after, the floodwaters swept Mrs. Murphy away and she drowned.
So she goes to Heaven, stands before God and is pissed! "I put all of my faith in you. Why didn't you come and save me?"
And God looked puzzled, saying, "I sent you a warning. I sent you a car. I sent you a canoe. I sent you a motorboat. I sent you a helicopter. What more do you want?"
We have been given an effective vaccine. This is how God is saving us from Covid.

Instead of pushing the buttons of innocent people, why can't they do what I did at the grocery store? I entered the checkout line and the man in front of me was standing a bit to the side and there was a big space between him and the person ahead of him. I wondered why he was doing that and why he didn't set his items down on the belt.
Then I realized that he was wearing a mask and social distancing. I respected that and backed up a couple steps. I also waited until he was almost done with his transaction before I put my items on the belt (even then I maintained my distance).
It didn't cost me any time or money to be polite and safe. Such a simple thing that covidiots refuse to do.
