Supreme Court throws out Biden administration eviction moratorium

(CNN)The Supreme Court on Thursday blocked the Biden administration's Covid-related eviction moratorium.

"If a federally imposed eviction moratorium is to continue, Congress must specifically authorize it," the court wrote in an unsigned, eight-page opinion.

The three liberal justices dissented.

This latest round of litigation was prompted by the version of the moratorium rolled out by the US Centers for Disease and Prevention on August 3, days after the last iteration of the moratorium had expired.

The President said that he didn’t expect it to pass muster… and the court’s fifth vote made clear that they would overturn any further extension unless Congress acted.

But renters got almost an extra month of protection.

I don’t disagree that Covid has brought financial hardship to millions and that for many make it impossible or very difficult to pay rent. However, the property owners also have rights. The last recourse a property owner has is that of eviction thereby making the property available for new tenants. There are two sides to this argument. The first moratorium May hsve been warranted but an extension is not IMO.

He was just buying time. He knew it. Hell, everyone knew it.

I'm not sure why people are surprised.
