So I have a theory

that since the suicide bomber set off his bomb while being patted down by US forces that they may have kept the bomber from mixing in with the other refugees and to get on to one of the, say, C-130 planes, which might have been the ISIS goal. If this is so, the troops who died probably kept the death toll from being even worse than the awful one it was.

Just speculation.

Those soldiers were heroes protecting everyone else. It's a terrible shame, but it could have been much worse.
