Lost my MIL couple months ago due to home accident and found out an aunt and uncle on father's side died last night, within hours of each other, of COVID. Have another aunt that likely won't survive the weekend... from COVID.
There are more sick as well. No sure if it was a family gathering or just chance but we have several family members dead, dying or very sick (other side of the country for me...we don't talk much...for obvious reasons)
The COVID deaths are from family up in the mountains of far west Maryland, about as far as you can go and not be in West Virginia. Rural and very Republican.
This is my first family deaths from COVID. That it was them up there on the mountain is not surprising at all. Didn't have to happen. It was preventable.

(10,421 posts)I have a friend who is in Western MD. He and his family are all vaccinated and taking precautions, but they're very concerned. Sorry for your losses.

(14,811 posts)But my Granddaughter got it last year when they went back to school & one of my Missouri cousin's daughter tested positive two weeks ago. My Granddaughter's whole family contracted it, including her infant brother that was nursing, after the school called to tell them she had been exposed. None of them had to be hospitalized but they were very ill & scared.
