A woman who was kicked off her flight to Charlotte in February for drinking alcohol, trying to vape and refusing to wear a mask has been hit with a $17,000 fine by the Federal Aviation Administration.
The woman was flying from Key West, Fla., to Charlotte on a Republic Airways flight on Feb. 28, according to the FAA. The agency says it has seen a nearly 300% increase in cases of unruly passengers so far this year compared to the number of incidents reported for all of 2020.
The penalty was among more than $530,000 in fines the FAA announced against 34 passengers on Thursday. The latest slate of fines means the agency has now fined unruly passengers more than $1 million in 2021.

Therell be a lot less hassle.

I don't understand that rule. I've actually brought little minis on a couple trips that I put in my coke because the prices are so high. I didn't know that was against the law!

(1,198 posts)I've read that there is an effort afoot to have airports not be allowed to sell the booz-to-go in containers to passengers. I've also read that it seems quite a few of the incidents of unruly behavior on planes are attributed to the brought-on booze.

(65,000 posts)Could be more an insurance thing, like a bar not letting you bring in your own beer, because it confuses liability coverage.
We did what you did to make a couple Bloody Marys on a flight.
But, I was most discrete because I DON'T think it's ok.
Not like, going to jail level, but maybe a small fine.
Later on, I had so many miles built up, we'd buy coach tickets & burn miles to upgrade. No more sneaking as the drinks are free anyway!
