https://www.huffpost.com/entry/texas-abortion-ban-sb-8_n_6129383ce4b0231e369bab25A Texas law banning abortion at six weeks is set to go into effect in just a few days. And while the ban will make it nearly impossible for women to get abortions in the state, the six-week ban abortion opponents garden-variety tactic of late is not the most concerning part.
What makes this Texas statute particularly troubling is that it deputizes private citizens to actively seek out and sue people aiding or abetting women who are attempting to get abortions in the state of Texas. If you successfully sue that person whether its an abortion provider, a pregnant womans friend, or even the rideshare driver who dropped her off at a clinic you receive a $10,000 bounty.
For those who don't know, Gilead is from the Handmaids Tale.
I am sure they are working on taking the women's vote away as well.

(5,680 posts)When I first moved to Shanghai and my wife was visiting her family, the police showed up at my door, bull rushed in, and asked me where the hooker was.
I asked what they were talking about since I speak fluent mandarin, which shocked them. They said a neighbor reported that I had a hooker living with me. I asked what hooker and they described my wife.
Apparently, one of my neighbors reported me and the police told me "it's well know all foreigners hire hookers." It was my wife and they didn't believe the legally issued marriage certifications from the Jiangsu government, since Chinese law that says when a foreigner and a Chinese person get married, it must be registered in the Chinese person's provincial capital.
They actually had to call my in-laws and my wife because "we know all foreigners lie."
They report all foreigners there for anything and everything. Texas has adopted that.

(8,911 posts)it was about your right to medical privacy.
They're screaming about hippa violations for asking about vaccines,
yet getting private info about your abortion or about your doctor and
now the person supply the trip, no that's not a hippa violation.
In fact, we'll pay you a bounty!

(2,347 posts)HIPPA isnt even real. Thats made up and nothing but Internet bullshit for Reichwing trolls. Not calling you a troll, nor Reichwing!
The actual law is called HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996), and doesnt do what they claim their precious HIPPA does. Id know, because Im a nurse and I have to get yearly, mandatory training on the law by every hospital I work for.
aggiesal
(8,911 posts)because it's just a cop out.
As I understand it, it is a Hippa violation for a doctor/nurse/hospital
to release information about a patient without the patients permission.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
The fact that I ask if you've been vaccinated, is not a Hippa violation, if
you're telling me. They're Covidiots.
GB_RN
(2,347 posts)A hospital or doctor or other provider knowingly gives out whats called Protected Health Information and that includes stuff like diagnoses, patient status, patient identifiers, etc. It is NOT a violation of HIPAA for you to ask the person in question anything about their medical status, nor is it a violation of the law for them to respond. Granted, they dont have to tell you, either, but the response, Its a violation of HIPAA (or their made up law, HIPPA, which they claim makes it illegal to ask vaccination status), is pure bullshit.
You cant ask their doctor, nor could that persons employer, as THAT would be a violation of HIPAA if any medical information was given, however.
Again, I wasnt calling you a troll. Apologies if I came across that way!
Hope this helps!
aggiesal
(8,911 posts)That's exactly how I interpreted the HIPPA law.
Not necessarily the details, but definitely the overall.
Anyone ever uses that on me, I can respond intelligently.
Thanks

(555 posts)Seems that they set up a website where the local pitchfork wielders could submit images of these perfidious women seeking medical help. I've heard that's already been shut down, because of people using the site as a dumping ground for nsfw and disturbing images. Here's a few articles about it.
