(54,770 posts)Its not good, and we know it will be used like Benghazi on steroids, but it happened and people will question was it worth it.
Same for people falling off plane, being surprised there are non-troop Americans who need to be evacuated, Afghans they seemed to think one or two cargo planes were enough to get them out, and Hillary Clinton having to help at risk women, etc. We werent prepared to start.
Reporting wasnt biased, inconvenient maybe. Heck, no major Democrat spoke out in favor of the mess, even though for withdrawal.
With that said, after the initial outrage, Biden or more likely the military and State Department have gotten their rears in gear and brought in more troops and planes to get people out.

They can kiss this viewer Good-bye until they act like a professional news organization instead of a ratings grabbing machine. Fuck them! Too bad they will never know of my boycott and if they did they wouldn't give a shit anyway.

(1,178 posts)My guess is they have some advertisers either on CNN or on CNN's sister networks that have made profits off the war, and that ad $ is dependent on it continuing.

(14,886 posts)CNN is not trying to inform, teach, educate, edify, or any of that high-minded shite journalists resort to when their industry is rightly criticized for its failures. CNN -- and FUX and MSNBC -- are trying to make some fucking profits. That is what they are up to. That is it. It really is that simple.
Controversy is good for their business. Partisanship is good for their business. Anxiety and fear are good for their business.
Also, why the heck do Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Raytheon, Northrop Grumman, etc buy commercials on cable news networks and broadcast networks? They don't sell shit to Joe Schmoe Viewer watching the nightly news or sportsball game, do they?
Oh... But that's a legal and valid way of giving money to the networks, isn't it? And we the audience are supposed to expect that has no influence on editorial or production decisions?
What do those ads actually return to them... Hmm?
Those networks don't give a shit about Trump or Biden. They care about their profits. If they get enough profits then they'll have enough money (as a corporation and as individual people) that it doesn't matter which party is in power. You must have noticed that rich people/companies do just fine under administrations from both parties. In the meantime, the priority is to get and stay rich to get and stay privileged.
Chaos and controversy drive revenue. Fear and anxiety drive revenue. Partisanship and hate drive revenue. Revenue drives what is aired.

(6,972 posts)CNNs New Day hit a seven-year low in the advertiser-coveted age demographic of viewers from 25 to 54 in July. It was the least-watched cable news program in the demo for the month.
The drop came after an anchor shuffle at New Day and a series of viral clips aimed at correcting COVID-19 misinformation and hitting rival network Fox News for its opinion programming on the vaccine.
Heres how the numbers broke down in July, according to Nielsen Media Research ratings data: Fox News Fox & Friends averaged 1.1 million viewers from 6 a.m. ET to 9 a.m. ET. Of those, 200,000 were in the demo. MSNBCs Morning Joe took in an average of 903,000 total viewers, of whom 117,000 were between 25 and 54. CNN brought in 450,000 total average viewers for New Day in that time slot, and of those, only 84,000 were in the key demo.
As has been widely reported, cable news ratings are down for all the networks after the highs of January 2021, which saw not only the deadly Capitol riot and President Joe Bidens inauguration, but the second impeachment trial of former President Donald Trump. In January, before New Day anchor Alisyn Camerota moved to late mornings and was replaced by current co-anchor Brianna Keilar, the show averaged 1.072 million viewers, with 286,000 in the demo. By comparison, Fox & Friends averaged 1.144 million in January, with 213,000 in the demo, and Morning Joe averaged 1.689 million, with 289,000 in the demo.
As evidenced above, all three shows have since seen declines, though New Day has been hit the hardest.
New Day has taken a sharper tone since its most recent relaunch, generating headlines for its critiques of Fox News and Republican lawmakers. On Monday, the program looked at data linking Fox News viewership to vaccine hesitancy, and last week, Keilar dedicated a segment to how ironic it was that GOP Sen. Ted Cruz has been criticizing Democratic lawmakers COVID-era travel.

and Biden managed to extend it to August 31. Biden and the State Dept have been telling people to get OUT with increasing urgency ever since March.
Furthermore, Trump & Pompeo, making their art of the Mid-East deal into a true clusterfck, arranged for 4,000 Taliban to be released from prison.
In all of this, what did Joe Biden get wrong? Its becoming clear that most Americans who now remain will be choosing to do so. It is not humanly possible to extract every Afghan who wants to leave, though we are trying. By the time the last American plane and chopper leave this will have been the largest airlift in history.
CNN is not speaking truth to power in this instance, I dont think.
