Set wife and baby to be with her mother.

Realized several things.

1. If you follow FEMA guidelines, most of the time it's okay.
2. Pay attention to flood plain maps.
3. Be a Boy Scout, be prepared.
4. Modern building codes are safer than 100-year-old codes.
5. People are stupid more often than not.

They ignore FEMA guidelines and pretend the guidelines aren't what they are. They ignore flood plain maps. They assume (see "ignoring FEMA guidelines" that at daybreak FEMA will be there to escort them to nice conditions or hand them food and ice. 72 hours minimum you should expect to be on your own. Anything less, "people are stupid more often than not."

Hurricane Ike? Power out. 1-person income for a family of 3? Found camp stove, little propane tanks. Breakfast was pancakes and eggs, to use up the eggs--no power. Dinner was chicken vindaloo, to use up leftovers. Nowhere near the end of the first tank by end of day 1, 6 for $5. Nice, cool, sunny day, no need for AC.

Seriously. 3 days' food and water. 4 people, not that much food; not *that* much water.

Many hurricanes later, I stick with 1-5.

They're to be respected. Pay attention to flood plain maps. Be prepared. Check your shelter. Make sure you have food and water.

Even during the February 2021 Texas snowmageddon it worked just fine. Annoying, but life-threatening? Seriously, worst problem was of the order "I'm bored" and "I need a blanket. Or another cat. Meow?" Meow? Problem solved.
