are just blocked from taking other measures, measures that in fact work like masks and the vaccine, by some mental block/loyalty to their tv hosts/politicians. How sick is that. Their tv and podcast hosts, and right wing politicians, are not loyal to them and their health.

Look at Rand Paul soldering the conspiracy theory in place:

Rand Paul: 'Hatred for Trump' blocking research into ivermectin as COVID-19 treatment
https://thehill.com/homenews/569975-rand-paul-hatred-for-trump-blocking-research-into-ivermectin
BY DOMINICK MASTRANGELO at the Hill
Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) suggested researchers are not pursuing ivermectin as a possible COVID-19 treatment because of their disdain for former President Trump.
"The hatred for Trump deranged these people so much, that they're unwilling to objectively study it," Paul told dozens of constituents at a meeting in a suburb just south of Cincinnati on Friday, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
"So someone like me that's in the middle on it, I can't tell you because they will not study ivermectin," the senator added. "They will not study hydroxychloroquine without the taint of their hatred for Donald Trump."
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) warned Americans last week not to take ivermectin, a drug sometimes used to treat parasitic worm infections in humans and livestock.

(21,840 posts)They all seem incapable of admitting that they were wrong when they chose to follow Trumpty and his claim that COVID is a hoax, etc.
Instead of admitting error, they keep going down further the same route -- you know, they're lying to us, blah-blah.
This reminds me Bush jr. who kept talking about Stay the Course. This seems to be the same thing. They can never admit error.
Their personal lives must be so screwed up since they can never admit error.

(24,287 posts)virus spread. Like, yeah, when the facts change or the science becomes clearer....the CDC should be updating their recommendations. Seems like our side follows the best advice wrt to the science and understands that this advice will change as we learn more. They have a real problem with change...of any kind.

(1,601 posts)I don't think it's a matter of stupidity (though these are not the brightest people in the world). I've noticed that most Republicans are strongly extroverted - they are very conscious of their in-crowd, and one of the lessons that is drilled into them from childhood is "never admit that they're wrong" - to their spouse, to their boss, to their friends, to their social peers, and most importantly to themselves. It's part of the reason that divorces are so common among social conservatives especially. In this mindset, the worst thing that can happen is for a person to lose face.
I've long had my suspicion that many people who vote Democratic have been ostracized socially at one point or another in their lives, and have learned some hard but valuable lessons as a consequence. Republicans, not so much.

Like their parents who got scared right out of the gate and vaccinated as soon as they could be. That was early days, before their kids became so mind-fucked that they can't claim risk of death as a valid excuse for betraying the cause.

The most poisonous of poisonous snakes' vemon works as neurotoxins.
For comparison, rattlesnakes have haemotoxic venom, which acts more slowly and is easier to treat.

(6,477 posts)They are very much worried about the virus. They just live in an alternate universe where the vaccine and masks are as harmful as the virus. It's actually quite sad. They're trying "everything," and have developed a whole discourse around various "protocols." The detail and futility of it are disturbing, and will be studied by social scientists and psychologists for years to come. The closest thing I have seen to this is the "self-treatments" that developed around HIV/AIDS in the mid-late 80's. Of course, there was no vaccine, so that's what makes the conservative Ivermectin in-group self-treatments so very, very weird.

People with only perfectly normal judgment can't possibly protect themselves as well as they (MAGAts) do. They think.

It's not comparable to some of our criticisms of ICE or TSA, which are 2 agencies I don't trust.

Of course, when there are several highly effective vaccines readily available, only someone as dangerous as Rand Paul would continue to promote snake oil cures.
