Dear Parent/Guardian/Employee,
Today, I write to make you aware that the Community School District recently confirmed that a student/staff member at school tested positive for COVID-19. Per IDPH guidelines, individual contact tracing to identify close contacts will not be conducted. Due to FERPA and HIPAA privacy laws, we cannot identify the grade level, area or classroom in which a positive person works or attends.
If your child (or staff member) develops symptoms of COVID-19, or is diagnosed with COVID-19, they should not return to school or activities until meeting the following criteria:
●At least 10 days since symptoms first appeared and
●At least 24 hours with no fever without fever-reducing medication and
●Other symptoms of COVID-19 are improving
**Loss of taste and smell may persist for weeks or months after recovery and need not delay the end of isolation

My school does pods at least, but what does this help? No clue.

(25,219 posts)It appears that there are too many irresponsible businesses and healthcare facilities that are hiding behind the HIPAA law and as a result are not acting responsibly to protect the health of the public in general (the whole public) instead of an individual.
It serves as a convenient way to absolve themselves of any actions that may contribute to helping people and keeping them virus free, safe and healthy.
HIPAA serves its purpose in many situations - but there are exceptions to every law. In my opinion - a pandemic - is one of those situations where there needs to be additional thought as to how to work in or around the HIPAA law - for the benefit of society in general versus - an individual.
After we come out on the other end of this pandemic and hopefully things normalize again - some thought needs to be taken to modify the HIPAA law to be able to function to the benefit of the masses.

(16,058 posts)that our school district has decided not to send out notifications.
So, we have no idea whatsoever.
Also in Iowa. Small town with more antivaxxers than sane people.
Glad my kid at home is 12 and vaccinated.
