The Evangelical Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia, has been having a tough couple of years. Not unlike the rest of the MAGA-supporting crowd, the COVID-19 pandemic has embodied the untenable communal experience of being led by morally hypocritical and preternaturally corrupt people. In March of last year, Liberty officials threw caution to the wind and opened up their campuses to returning spring session students. Very quickly, the Bible-based school faced the rough realities of science as the COVID-19 pandemic began spreading among students very quickly. The school closed down, like the rest of the country.
One might think an institution celebrating the pursuit of knowledge and critical thinking might learn from their experiences. One might, in this case, be wrong. Starting Monday, Liberty University will begin a campus-wide quarantine. NBC reports that the quarantine is the result of a spike in COVID-19 cases among students and staff. The quarantine is scheduled to end on Sept. 10
for now. The university changed its protocol late Thursday to enact the campus-wide quarantine, move classes online and suspend large, indoor gatherings. Shockingly* the evangelical institution began the year by having absolutely no social distancing, capacity restrictions, mask requirements, or vaccine requirements. It is almost like virtually anyone with a reading comprehension above the age of zero years old could have predicted this outcome.
The school, which was started by the morally corrupt Jerry Falwell Sr.* and is now led by his watered down (but equally morally bankrupt) son, had to quickly shut down. This led to a lawsuit by Liberty students who accused the school of misrepresenting how safe the campus was, and then taking their money and freezing them out of the college experience they were promised. And guess what: any of these students are angry once again, though some of them dont seem to understand how any of this works.
Kendall Covington, a senior at the school, told NBC local 10 news: Im upset. I mean, of course, Im glad that steps are being taken to protect the students welfare; but to be honest, this is a slapstick measure. Junior Nathan Grimes added: If we had just taken some really simple steps, we couldve avoided this whole issue. Grimes went on to say that the irresponsibility shown here kind of feels like youre wasting youre your money.

(1,356 posts)Wear a mask and go about your business freely is bad. Being quarantined and told you can't leave a place is better? I'm confused! Side note, these hypocrites in these so called "christian" circles, would crucify Jesus (again) if he came back today!

It is, by definition, a waste of money, kid!

(26,050 posts)There are plenty of RWNJ colleges and universities that are at least accredited, even if they still suck.
I know someone forced to go there by their parents, and they had to basically get an entire new BA at Mary Washington before they could apply to grad school.

(64,960 posts)I knew a couple whose kid went there. He REALLY wanted to be a lawyer.
The only law school he could get into was, you guessed it, Liberty.
Took him 4 tries to pass the bar. He works for a tiny firm & takes public defender gigs.
His parents are pretty religious, but they're not RWNJs. Not sure how they thought sending him there was a good idea.

(22,097 posts)been preaching about, etc., and then when they still get sick, and/or die, they (some of them) will say it is God's will.
No, it isn't. God asked us to treat our bodies as 'temples', take care of them. In a way, according to some of the gospels I'm reading, by not taking precautions (vaccines, social distancing, masks, in other words, not protecting their bodies), they are actually encouraging the Devil to come into their lives.
It's pathetic that these so called evangelicals never say this...to be fair, there are some words of wisdom out there, and maybe perhaps more and more will prevail w/ their words of wisdom, maybe if too many die from COVID?

He wants us all to take the vaccine and stay healthy.

(46,061 posts)This college immediately shut down and developed a protocol to allow students to return.
1. Required vaccinations
2. Masks where necessary
3. Each student has her own room, no roommates
4. Immediate quarantine with only one symptom or a test
5. Regular testing
The freshman enrollment is the highest since 2013.

(64,960 posts)No vax, no in-person classes. No exceptions.
I don't know about the "one to a dorm room" thing, though.
They announced the vax policy late last May. The transfer rate out of the school was the LOWEST ever.
