Mike Richards out as 'Jeopardy!' executive producer after podcast controversy

Mike Richards is no longer the executive producer of “Jeopardy!" and “Wheel of Fortune,” Sony Pictures Television announced on Tuesday. The announcement comes less than two weeks after Richards stepped down as the new “Jeopardy!” host following the revelation of his many offensive comments on his former podcast.

“We had hoped that when Mike stepped down from the host position at ‘Jeopardy!’ it would have minimized the disruption and internal difficulties we have all experienced these last few weeks. That clearly has not happened,” Suzanne Prete, the executive vice president for business and strategy for both game shows, said in an email to staff. “I know this has been a challenging time for the entire team, and I want to thank you all for your cooperation and professionalism over these last few weeks.”

Prete added that Michael Davies from the production company Embassy Row will help production “on an interim basis until further notice.”

This story will be updated.

15. He was the executive producer of the show

The executive producer is the person who makes hiring/firing decisions. That means Mike Richards chose HIMSELF to be the new emcee, the new Alex Trebek. That 6-month "contest" of trying out candidates was all a ruse, because Richards already knew it would be him.

This guy is bad news, and he deserves to be fired by Sony. I bet he'll never get another job in television production again, and he shouldn't.

Jeopardy fans deserve better, don't you think?

because he thought the show was changing in ways that were not appealing to him. How ironic that today Jeopardy host is such a plum job that so many want.

7. Interesting story about Mike Richards on Vulture

I was just reading this yesterday. Vulture is a regular blog on TV topics published by New Yorker magazine.

So Vulture says that Mike Richards picked himself as the replacement emcee for Jeopardy and that tryout/contest of all the candidates was a scam. Richards knew all along that he was going to choose himself as the "winner." Several interesting points were made in this article, including the fact that Sony should fire his ass immediately.

Now it has officially happened, and good riddance.
