I have long covid and have enough issues and everything I see hear and read is so ugly and sad. What happened to our country with TFG has opened a Pandora's box of depravity and hate. I see the evil winning every day...the Republicans, voting rights, C19, masks, vaccines, it's all bastardized and what they have done in the name of Jesus. Not my Jesus. How do you all live with this?

(5,065 posts)I don't have any suggestions besides avoiding the news--at least no more than headlines--and treating yourself like the most important person in the world.
Wishing you healing very soon!

(16,903 posts)a while........ mix it up... boredom comes from doing the same things every day, it's sort of a Groundhog Day moment... every day.
I get this way also, and I find that reading a book or calling my friends sparks me up...

Still, I count my blessing everyday and always something to appreciate the day.

(2,403 posts)Every day it is something new. The negativity is beyond what we should be experiencing. There is so much hate right now, that is all anyone focuses on.

(7,016 posts)to traitors, anti-maskers, anti-vaxers, pro trump, anti-American, pro-russian, big lie spreading republican criminals by the media. It's so very obvious who the champions of evil in America are and anyone reporting anything else is evil along with them.

I try to distract myself some with other things so I don't overwhelm myself with fear or despair.

(268,930 posts)The vast majority of people don't watch the news the way we do.
Despite all the hacks and their BS, Dems won the Presidency, the House and the Senate.
The Select Committee is about to unleash some serious shit on these fascists.

(11,730 posts)Here is something important to understand about "the news". News sells when it engages the viewer. What engages the average viewer? Drama. If the news were just matter of fact, stories would be mostly mundane. People living their lives, mostly things proceeding how they should. People dying, people being born. Working, living, etc...
The people who want to "sell you the news" want you to be aroused. Pissed off, scared, etc... Take gun violence for example. Up till recently (the last few years) gun violence was at an all time low. Much lower per capita then in the previous 50 years. Reporting on gun violence however, during that same period, went up something like 425%. That is not to say the gun violence is not a problem. It certainly is, but it shows that problems that are actually decreasing, can be made to seem like they are growing exponentially because of the focus of the media.
Before the advent of cable news and the 24 hour media cycle, a murder in the Bronx, would not be known by people living on my side of the country. That murder is tragic and the people affected are devastated, however, because of the need to fill air time and get more revenue, now I can see all the murders that happen thousands of miles, even in other countries if I want to.
Add social media to the mix and now you can have the bad news delivered right to your fingertips. You don't EVER have to not know all of the bad stuff that is happening.
What I do is focus on my job, on my family, on the community around me. Those are things that affect me on a daily basis. I still watch the national news and international news, but I don't dwell on it. I can control my actions. I can help my family and my community. My little part, maybe can help the world a little bit. That is the best we can do.

(2,343 posts)We were quite busy and away from the TV and internet. Coming home on the flight, I told my wife I think I actually felt happier. Maybe a little ignorance can truly be bliss. I'm going to go on a news diet until at least after 9/11. Just have a feeling it's going to be a litany of bad or angering news until then. Will be better for my blood pressure!
