My daughter started college last Monday and yesterday she tested positive for Covid 19 as did her roomate. She was also a week away from receiving her second vaccination shot.
So now all three of my children have had Covid infections. Her two adult brothers were infected last year and still haven't been vaccinated. Nor will my wife. She is worried thst it would worsen a health condition and is too swayed by ancedotal evidence. She is also running the risk of being fired for not being vaccinated. It is amazing how otherwise intelligent people make such stupid decisions based on the weakest posible evidence. I tell them that I don't to have to bury any of them so get the gosh darn shots!

(672 posts)for 10 days from date of positive test. All of their meals and mail is brought to them and they can continue their coursework online as their condition permits. Specific staff members have been assigned to work with students who have Covid or suspect they have Covid.
I'm not sure how long she has to wait to receive her second shot after testing positive. So far her symptoms have been fairly minor but I am worried anyways. She has always been Daddy's little girl.

(13,574 posts)I got my Pfizer vaccine. At 60. That is a very nice surprise.
Okay, it may be because of exercise and diet, but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

(13,492 posts)know what your wifes medical condition is, but I have an autoimmune disease since childhood (am in my sixties) and I was encouraged to get it. I also take medication for said autoimmune disease which makes me more vulnerable to Covid. I have taken both doses of the vaccine in the spring and got my booster two weeks ago. No adverse reaction to the vaccine.
Hope your daughter gets better and eventually gets her second vaccine.

(672 posts)We have had several heated discussions about vaccination. I understand what her worry is but as far as I can tell she hasn't discussed it with her doctors at Mayo and is relying on "she has a friend whose sister...." evidence. It is a frustrating situation as I base my decision making on medical sources like John Hopkins University and the Mayo Clinic.
I think I was better prepared to deal with the situation as I read Laurie Garrett's books, The Coming Plague, when it was published in the 90's and her second book, Betrayal of Trust: The Collapse of Global Public Health, in the early 2000's.

(22,631 posts)A recent study of 159 people who did have a certified severe allergic reaction to a Covid-19 vaccine found that 4 out of 5 of them didnt have the same reaction when they got their second shot. For the 20% of people who did - these reactions were easily managed with medication....
People who have a history of anaphylaxis can safely receive these vaccines, but they may wish to receive it in a medical facility where they can be monitored for 30 minutes with epinephrine available...
