The other big Texas new for today...

Although a distant second to the state giving the okay to vigilante law enforcement (with a reward!) in order to create their own little American Christian theocracy of he-man-woman-haters, there is other Texas news.

Today is the day that anyone can walk into a store that carries them and buy a gun with no background check, no training, no nothing. And then just put it in their purse or pocket and go about their day.

As Twitter said, "Pick up a pistol at 7-11 with your Slurpee".

The laws in place for firearms purchase have not changed. Purchaser must produce ID, complete the federal Firearms Transaction Record, and undergo a background check to buy a gun.

What HAS changed is that anyone of legal age who isn't a felon can carry, openly or concealed, a firearm without any sort of training or licensing.

That's bad enough.

It's the best prophylactic I can think of. Also a good defense against a potential rapist.
